The Blanching Technique - A Modified Approach
The first of its kind in the UK, our Modified Blanching Technique course will change your approach to aesthetics.
Example Cases

Kaley
Kaley attended with an obvious concern regarding the quality of her skin over a large area of the cheek and perioral region. As can be seen from the pretreatment images she has extensive solar elastosis characterised by a thickened texture. She has accentuated rhytids with skin that has a loss of elasticity with a dry and rough texture.
Treatment options for this presentation could include topical creams, chemical peels, laser resurfacing and fillers. However, the only treatment undertaken in this case was with the use of fillers utilising the modified blanching technique.
Three sessions were completed over a period of six weeks with no other treatment. The results show a dramatic improvement in skin tone, texture and hydration.

Vicky
Vicky attended with a concern regarding the nasolabial lines which she felt were particularly exaggerated with makeup. We advised to have treatment with fillers using our modified blanching technique.
One session was completed and Vicky was reviewed after three weeks. We can see an excellent reduction with an almost complete effacement of the nasolabial rhytids
Chris
Chris was concerned by the fine nasolabial lines and has had previous treatment for these with fillers by another clinic. Unfortunately, she had been dissatisfied with the results. Chris was an ideal candidate for the modified blanching technique, and we can see the appearance here directly after her treatment.
How It Began
The LW Aesthetics Training Academy is proud to present a groundbreaking and truly unique training course - the first of its kind in the UK—that focuses exclusively on what is termed the blanching or flat blanching technique.
First pioneered by Dr Patrick Micheels in 2013, this innovative approach to treating superficial rhytids involves a "blanching technique" for injecting hyaluronic acid into the superficial dermis. The distinctive white blanching appearance of the skin is the hallmark of this treatment.
How We’ve Developed The Technique
While the treatment provides outstanding results, the original technique can be difficult to perfect. Our course modifies Dr Micheels' concept making it much easier to undertake, enabling delegates to master the procedure with a technique we have termed the modified blanching technique.

Course Outline
-
We begin by exploring the history and development of the blanching technique in aesthetic medicine. You'll gain insight into how this precision-based method emerged, and the rationale behind modifying the original approach.
-
Understanding skin anatomy is essential for safe and effective filler placement. We cover the relevant layers of the skin, dermal-epidermal junctions, and how these structures can influence product selection, technique, and expected outcomes.
-
Not all fillers are created equal. We’ll discuss the key rheological properties (such as viscosity, cohesivity and Gprime) that make a product suitable for blanching techniques. You'll learn how to evaluate and select appropriate HA fillers from different brands for optimal results.
-
Demystifies the Tyndall effect—why it occurs, how to identify it, and most importantly, how to avoid it through correct product selection, depth control, and patient assessment.
-
Compare the traditional blanching technique with the modified version. Highlighting the key differences in approach, placement depth, and patient outcomes. We explain why and how the modified technique can enhance precision, safety, results and aesthetic longevity.
-
Not every patient is an ideal candidate. Here, we guide you through proper case selection, including skin assessment, treatment goals, and how to manage patient expectations for best results.
-
Detailed anatomical knowledge is vital to avoid complications. We review the key vascular structures in commonly treated areas and identify high-risk zones. You’ll learn how to apply this knowledge to safely navigate treatment areas with confidence.
-
Though the blanching technique is considered low risk when performed correctly, complications such as vascular occlusion (VO) can still occur if the treatment is undertaken at the wrong depth or in the wrong area. We cover how to assess for VO’s, emergency protocols with a strong focus on hyaluronidase use, current industry guidance, and patient management strategies.
-
With plenty of exposure to models, this session allows you to develop your technique, build confidence in product placement, and apply the theoretical knowledge learned throughout the day in a clinical setting.
You'll receive access to supporting resources, including digital guides and a post-course video library, to reinforce your learning after training.
Join us at LW Aesthetics Academy and take the next step in mastering this transformative treatment. Designed for medical professionals ready to elevate their aesthetic practice, our expert-led course combines hands-on training with in-depth knowledge.
